Rugby Speakers

Ian Robertson

Ian won rugby blues at both Aberdeen and Cambridge Universities, and went on to play centre for London Scottish and the Barbarians.

He played 8 times for Scotland then retired and joined the BBC in 1972 as Rugby correspondent. He has travelled the world covering Rugby for nearly 30 years now. Initially on the TV for Rugby Special and Grandstand, and for 3 years as Rugby correspondent at the Times.

He has written more than 30 books including ghosted biographies for Bill Beaumont and Andy Irvine, and 2 books with Gareth Edwards. He also wrote a family biography of Richard Burton which entailed spending 2 weeks with Elizabeth Taylor in Hollywood!

In the summer he masquerades as an expert on horse racing for BBC radio and over the years has had numerous tiny shares in some very slow horses lacking in any sort of ambition!
